GRI Designation Program

The Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI) designation is a professional development training program for residential real estate professionals interested in increasing their knowledge and business skills in the fundamentals of real estate practice.  Administered locally by MAR via the Massachusetts REALTOR® Institute, this national program includes 90 hours of classroom instruction, presented as six two-day courses, each followed by an exam.  Courses may be taken in any sequence.

The GRI designation is only available to licensed agents who are members of the REALTOR® organization, thus making it a prestigous industry achievement for those who acquire it, not to mention an important business referral tool.  In fact, in Massachusetts, just 11 percent of the MAR membership, or approximately 2,100 REALTORS® currently hold the GRI designation.

While the GRI program is primarily designed for REALTORS® licensed for less than five years, the comprehensive course curriculum is updated regularly making it ideal for experienced agents wishing to enhance their business or learn more about current industry issues and trends.  In all, over 20 industry topics and specialty areas of practice are presented for study and discussion, including agency, appraisal, corporate relocation, environmental issues, financing, international real estate, negotiation strategies, personal and business taxation, professional standards, relocation, and residential construction and building and zoning codes.  Courses are presented regionally across the state each year by a trained faculty of real estate and business professionals, and several of the courses provide continuing education credits.

Standard course tuition is $250 per class.  Upon successful completion of all six GRI courses, students receive a GRI pin, wall plaque, and package of informational brochures explaining the designation that may be distributed to clients and customers.
